Cadence Network Hires Unique Design Consultant to Create New Headquarters: It’s Employees

As a result of tremendous growth and success, Cadence relocates to 50% larger space at 600 Vine Street in downtown Cincinnati—with 100% employee participation

May 29, 2007

CINCINNATI, Ohio—May 29, 2007——Cadence Network, Inc., a leading utility, lease, and telecom expense management firm, is aggregating employee creativity just as it aggregates electricity. The booming energy management firm tapped its employee base to design the company’s new corporate headquarter space at 600 Vine Street, Suite 1600 in downtown Cincinnati—and now after a year of planning, they have completed the move. The new office space is 50 percent larger than the company’s previous office located at Fourth & Walnut Centre, an expansion that reflects Cadence’s continued growth at 30 percent a year for each of the past three years.

All levels of the company—from the first-year recruits to the CEO—had their hands in the decision-making, demonstrating Cadence’s open and collaborative company culture. When deciding where to move, Cadence surveyed employees and held employee focus groups on what they liked and disliked in an office space. The company also mapped out employees’ commutes to the possible new locations, including various buildings in Cincinnati and its suburbs, to determine the most convenient site.

In the end, 600 Vine Street won out due to five key factors: One, Cincinnati has been Cadence’s headquarters for the past decade. Two, it’s the most convenient commute for employees. Three, it offers the most competitive rental rates. Four, it’s convenient to the Greater Cincinnati airport. And fifth, the building allowed Cadence to continue the evolution of its open collaborative culture. Plus the growing company, which plans to continue the growth of its staff over the next 12 months, has the option to expand even more in its new headquarters.

Once 600 Vine Street was chosen, employees voted on the new space’s color schemes, desk chairs, and unique names for the conference rooms. Jeff Hart, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cadence Network, regularly updated employees on renovation and design progress with company-wide e-mails.

“The impetus for the move is twofold,” says Hart. “First, I view Cadence as the employees’ company—not mine. I look at senior management as a tool that enables employees to get their jobs done. So the happier employees are in their work environment, the higher the quality of work they can produce. Couple that with a state-of-the-art space, which is 50 percent larger than our old office, and we’re well-positioned to grow by 40 percent within the next year. In the end, this leads to higher employee moral and superior customer service.”

Cadence’s new space, per the employees’ design, is a collaborative work environment that improves employee comfort, productivity, and client service. It features an abundance of natural light—360 degrees to be exact. All exterior walls are glass, creating beautiful panoramic views of the city from every office, cubicle, and desk. Computer rooms are temperature-controlled with premium-level HVAC units and fire suppression units with multiple levels of redundancy, protecting the company and customers’ vital technical data. The building and floor are also guarded with 7x24 guards and a state-of-the-art security system.

Cadence officially opened its new headquarters for business on May 21. Cadence Invoice Processing Center will continue to operate out of Columbus, and the company will retain all of its 7 offices nationwide.
